On November 6-7, the 5th All-Ukrainian Yavornytsky Scientific Readings, dedicated to the 170th anniversary of the birth of Academician D.I. Yavornytskyi, were held at the Faculty of History of Dnipro National University.
The Scientific Library was invited to participate in the event. On the first day of the conference, the director of the National Library, Lyudmila Luchka, presented a report in Section 4, “Publications of Dnipropetrovsk Public Education Institute as a Source of Book Heritage of Oles Honchar Dnipro National University ”.
In her report, Ms. Lyudmila highlighted the collection of the first editions of Katerinoslav Higher Institute of People's Education - Dnipropetrovsk Public Education Institute of the 1920s-1930s, which were the foundation for the future fund of the scientific library. “Notes”, “Issues and Notes”, “Scientific Notes of the Historical and Philological Section”, “Scientific Notes of the Scientific and Research Department of Biology” were among them. A certain part of the collection is individual monographs of Ukrainian scientists and reprints of articles. The speaker drew attention to the seals confirming the functioning of the scientific library from the first years of Dnipro National University's activity. Publications from the beginning of the 20th century came to the book collection in difficult historical conditions and are considered to be an important proof of the qualitative formation of the library collection.
The second day of the conference was devoted to a round table, accompanied by a presentation of new books by Professor Natalia Romanets. The scientific library prepared a selection of books on the history of the Holodomor and political repressions of the 1920s and 1950s against the Ukrainian people. The exhibition aroused interest in fourth-year students, who lively discussed the situation in Ukraine at that time. Such meetings are useful for scientists, postgraduates, and students and contribute to the cooperation of faculties with the scientific library.
